Jumping Off The Page (Improvised Play) w/ Wandering Aesthetics At Kent Creativity Festival

Join Wandering Aesthetics for a day of improvisational play for ALL AGES and ALL SKILL LEVELS! Guided by Storytellers Kyle Jozsa and Nici Romo, participants will – adding their own personal twist – act out well-known stories from throughout the ages as audiences cheer them on! From myths to fairy tales, this day is sure to be an adventure like none other.

ABOUT THE KENT CREATIVITY FESTIVAL:

This free event will take place on Sept. 30, 2017, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the Lester A. Lefton Esplanade between Rockwell Hall and downtown Kent.

The festival is being planned by a group of local stakeholders, including Kent State University, the City of Kent, Main Street Kent, local non-profit organizations and Kent businesses.

The second annual Kent Creativity Festival provides an opportunity for people of all ages and skill levels to come together to create, share and explore the creation of all forms of art. Artists prepare and lead interactive creative activities that will engage and inspire visitors to explore their own creativity and participate in the joy and transformative power of making art and sharing it with others.

ABOUT JUMPING OFF THE PAGE (IMPROVISED PLAY):

Join Wandering Aesthetics for a day of improvisational play for ALL AGES and ALL SKILL LEVELS! Guided by Storytellers Kyle Jozsa and Nici Romo, participants will – adding their own personal twist – act out folk tales from around the world or create their own as audiences cheer them on!

A few props, some makeshift costumes and a story is all you'll need throughout this interactive theatrical affair. From trickster foxes to helpful monkeys, step out of reality and into the world of make believe.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:

Drawing on a work ethic derived from his path to Eagle Scout, Kyle Jozsa co-founded the storytelling theatre company, Wandering Aesthetics in 2013 with his partner in work and life, Benjamin Rexroad. Kyle serves as Wandering Aesthetics’ Artistic Director, Director of Education and primary Storyteller. As such, Kyle is charged with collecting stories from the heart of Appalachia to the shores of the Cuyahoga, creating dynamic storytelling performances and inspiring students of all ages to find their voices and tell their own tales. Kyle’s theatrical training includes an intensive summer program at Double Edge Theatre in Asheville, MA, multiple workshops with Akron’s own New World Performance Laboratory and extensive work with Director Benjamin Rexroad. Following his hike of the 2,186-mile Appalachian Trail, Kyle made the transition to solo performer. Most recently Kyle was named the 2016 Akron Arts Alive! Award Winner for Outstanding Artist in Theater.

Through all of these changes, Kyle has remained dedicated to his personal training and the study of the actor’s (and storyteller’s) craft.

Funny Noizes Production is pleased to introduce it's first professionally instructed improv class at the historic West Theater in Barberton – lead by Storyteller Kyle Jozsa.

ABOUT HOT APPLESAUCE IMPROV:

Funny Noizes Production will be bringing the finest instructors of improv from Akron, Cleveland, Canton, and other cities, to provide an in-depth, on your feet, hands-on experience in improv.

These will be ongoing one-off classes that will utilize the fundamentals of improvisation inspired by the founders of improv, such as Del Close, Keith Johnstone, Viola Spolin and others. This class will be instructed by a rotation of various teachers to introduce different styles and techniques.

This class will be a balance of fun, yet will still provide skills for any stage performer. Hot Applesauce is suitable for beginners as well as those with improv experience.

The concession stand will be open for your convenience.

The Kent Creativity Festival is a hands on arts festival which is open to everyone of all ages. All activities are free. The event features live entertainment, 26 different interactive art creations in the visual arts, dance and choreography, music, etc. and many other art making activities. Plus food trucks and more! Free parking on city streets.

This festival will provide an opportunity for people of all ages and skill levels to come together to create, share and explore the creation of all forms of art. This free event will take place on September 24, 2016 from 11 am to 5 pm on the Lester A. Lefton Esplanade between Rockwell Hall and downtown Kent. 

ABOUT JUMPING OFF THE PAGE (IMPROVISED PLAY):

A few props, some makeshift costumes and a story is all you'll need throughout this interactive theatrical affair. From Little Red to Big Bad and all those characters in between, step out of reality and into the world of play and make believe.

Acting as either audience or actor and working with professional storytellers, participants will help recreate scenes from famous fairy tales from around the world.

Visual artists often look to their world for inspiration when creating their art. Join Teaching Artist Kyle Jozsa, of Wandering Aesthetics, as he helps you unleash your imagination to develop a character, monologue or dramatic scene based entirely on one of the entries from this year’s Art Prize. Allow yourself to follow your intuition, creating theatre inspired by art that truly speaks to you. No experience is necessary as during the workshop you will be guided in best practices of improvisation, character development and crafting of simple dialogue (lines).

FUNdamentals of Storytelling

To tell a story is to be the story, and this introduction to storytelling is your first step on the path to telling yours. In preparation for Full Circle Storytelling, Wandering Aesthetics' Education Director and Master Storyteller, Kyle Jozsa, will explore the basics of discovering and crafting your very own story.

Using real life experiences, Jozsa will guide participants through the process of building a narrative. Moving from the bare bones to muscle & blood, participants will learn basic storytelling fundamentals and use those tools to shape their own telling.

The workshop is designed for storytelling beginners, but can also offer new techniques to more experienced storytellers.

This workshop is FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

ABOUT THE EVENT:

Piggybacking off the highly popular Wine & Canvas night at ACAMP, join Just Go With It Improv for a night of laughter, performance and - of course - WINE!

Participants will see how fun and games can be turned into valuable lessons for everyday life by exploring different styles and techniques of making things up on the spot.

The evening will end with a special performance by 'Just Go With It.'

*There will be a 20 minute intermission before the performance*

No experience necessary. Come Improv(e) with us!!!

The Open Door: Akron's Performance Exchange (Resonate with Peace)

*In conjunction with AKRON PEACE WEEK*

The Open Door is open to the public and no registration is required.

There is a $5 suggested donation to The Open Door.

ABOUT THE SESSION:

Peace can be channeled through the mind, through the spirit, through the body and through the voice.

The voice is a powerful instrument capable of vibrational frequencies which can help reduce stress, alter consciousness and create a deep sense of peace, well being and overall better health. Using techniques learned from Tibetan Sound Healing and Singing Circles, Benjamin Rexroad and Kyle Jozsa of Wandering Aesthetics will guide participants on a vocal journey designed to promote harmony and healing. Working with breath, tone and resonation, participants will discover a deeper connection and appreciation for the voice and its energy.

*Participants will not be required to vocalize*
