THE PROMPT: ‘HAPPINESS IS...'

Happiness is finding a pencil/pizza with sausage/telling the time…
Happiness is learning to whistle/tying your shoes for the very first time…
Happiness is two kinds of ice cream/knowing a secret/climbing a tree…
Happiness is five different crayons/catching a firefly/setting him free…
Happiness is a warm gun.

While this unsettling “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”/Beatles mash-up gives us rather specific details about what “happiness is”, its true message lies in what happiness is not. Happiness is not the same to everyone. Join Wandering Aesthetics with emcee Drew Louis (Actor with Pro-Model & Talent Mgmt. • Senior at Hudson High School (Ohio)) to share stories about what “Happiness Is…” for each of us.

THEME FOR APRIL:

...Comedy...

A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift

Written in 1729, 'A Modest Proposal' is a satirical essay written and published anonymously by Jonathan Swift. The author suggests that the impoverished Irish might ease their economic burdens through a simple scheme: selling their children as fancy fare (food) to the rich.

'Through Time and Space with Ferdinand Feghoot' by Reginald Bretnor

Feghoots are a long-running series of short science fiction pieces that were published in various magazines over several decades. Each humorous Feghoot follows a fundamental formula in which the title character has to solve a problem bedeviling some manner of being or extricate himself from a dangerous situation.

'The Mouse' by H.H. Munro (Saki)

Considered one of Saki's lighter and more purely humorous stories, 'The Mouse' is about a socially awkward man and his difficulties in dealing with a mouse climbing up the leg of his pants...

Prompt: TRANSFORMATION

MISSION STATEMENT:

Full Circle is an open mic for storytellers. Telling their own true tales, Akronites are placed at the center of their own life journeys. Based on the work of Joseph Campbell, we use narrative to ignite understanding between diverse peoples, building bridges– not walls– within our community.

ABOUT WORLD STORYTELLING DAY:

Started in Sweden, World Storytelling Day is a global celebration of the art of oral storytelling. Each year on or near the March equinox, communities gather together to celebrate storytellers and stories. Participants share with each other, gaining insight, building relationships, and inspiring all who listen.

VIDEO ARCHIVE:

We are creating a video and audio archive of stories from residents of the Greater Akron area. This archive may be used by students, journalists, researchers, artists, etc. for purposes beyond Full Circle Storytelling events. Participants at our live events are not required to have their stories recorded for our archive. Sometimes the magic is only for those in the room.
