THE PROMPT: ‘HAPPINESS IS...'

Happiness is finding a pencil/pizza with sausage/telling the time…
Happiness is learning to whistle/tying your shoes for the very first time…
Happiness is two kinds of ice cream/knowing a secret/climbing a tree…
Happiness is five different crayons/catching a firefly/setting him free…
Happiness is a warm gun.

While this unsettling “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”/Beatles mash-up gives us rather specific details about what “happiness is”, its true message lies in what happiness is not. Happiness is not the same to everyone. Join Wandering Aesthetics with emcee Drew Louis (Actor with Pro-Model & Talent Mgmt. • Senior at Hudson High School (Ohio)) to share stories about what “Happiness Is…” for each of us.

About 'Taste of the Breadbox':

In 2015, Wandering Aesthetics was awarded a two-year Knight Arts Challenge matching grant for “Bigger Than a Breadbox.” Building on the success of our open mic-style “Electric Pressure Cooker Cabaret”, “Breadbox” gathers Akron’s finest performers, provides coaching to further develop their talent and then features these acts in quarterly vaudeville-esque variety shows. Shows rotate throughout different neighborhoods in Akron, highlighting their unique histories– from the forgotten women of the canal era to the changing faces of North Hill.

Over the past nine months, “Breadbox” has worked to successfully raise over $30,000! However, “Breadbox” is $5,500 shy of its Year One match criterion. Once these funds are raised, “Breadbox” can focus on elevating its artistic quality, growing the company and creating the most impactful programming possible.

To complete our remaining match for year one of Bigger Than a Breadbox, we are hosting a two-day online auction: Taste of the Breadbox: An Evening of Culture from the Couch. The online auction site will be live for 48 hours beginning on April 14, 2017 at 12:00 pm and closing on April 16, 2017 at 12:00 pm.

The Pajama JAM may be FREE, but we all know how hanging out in your p.j.’s all night is priceless!

ABOUT BIGGER THAN A BREADBOX:

In March of 2016, Wandering Aesthetics, was awarded its first ever grant of $75,000 from the John S. Knight Foundation for our winning #KnightArts Challenge idea: The Electric Pressure Cooker Presents... Bigger Than a Breadbox" (BTAB). This Project (BTAB) is tasked with providing Akron's artists and businesses, through a quarterly vaudeville show of local talent, a platform that will travel to different neighborhoods showcasing a rich mixture of Akron's best.

Over the past nine months, BTAB has worked to successfully raise over $30,000! However, BTAB is $5,500 shy of its Year One match criterion. Once these funds are raised, BTAB can focus on elevating its artistic quality, growing the company and creating the most impactful programming possible.

If online bidding is too exciting for an “evening on the couch”, you can also make a flat donation toward our goal. Anyone who donates or bids will receive online access to a specially curated selection of art that offers a “Taste of the Breadbox”. (Just another reason to stay home.) Please email info@watheatre.com with any questions.

So: don’t be afraid to bid– and bid often. You don’t even have to take off your pajamas.

THEME FOR APRIL:

...Comedy...

A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift

Written in 1729, 'A Modest Proposal' is a satirical essay written and published anonymously by Jonathan Swift. The author suggests that the impoverished Irish might ease their economic burdens through a simple scheme: selling their children as fancy fare (food) to the rich.

'Through Time and Space with Ferdinand Feghoot' by Reginald Bretnor

Feghoots are a long-running series of short science fiction pieces that were published in various magazines over several decades. Each humorous Feghoot follows a fundamental formula in which the title character has to solve a problem bedeviling some manner of being or extricate himself from a dangerous situation.

'The Mouse' by H.H. Munro (Saki)

Considered one of Saki's lighter and more purely humorous stories, 'The Mouse' is about a socially awkward man and his difficulties in dealing with a mouse climbing up the leg of his pants...
